We live in a time of great change, but with so much change comes an agitation and irritability in the collective psyche. To balance this speed of change, spiritual beings are challenged to stay deeply rooted in a depth of calm. With so much happening in the outer world, we need to invoke a presence of deep stillness, and peace rooted in both Heaven and Earth. When we are rooted in this way we become a force of equanimity in a chaotic world. Discovering this depth—this deep well of Peace within, will be the focus of our winter retreat. Why do we suffer so much individually and communally? Most of our suffering is in some way related to power issues within ourselves, with others, and in relationship to life itself. It is a rare moment when you meet someone on the path, who seems to have their life sorted out. It is even more rare to meet an individual who lives with a high degree of spiritual autonomy. If we stop and reflect upon the character qualities of great spiritual beings, we notice that individual is not moved by the conditions of life or the thoughts and opinions of others.
